Tuesday, get your errands done

We have no fresh fruits or vegetable in the house. The wire basket thingy hanging by the sink is completely empty. And I need to go to the bank. And the post office. AGAIN.
I will not, however, dare to go near the mall or Target, or anywhere else where there are people frantically buying back to school stuff. I consider myself somewhat social, but my goodness, there are times where I just don’t like other people.

Happy Monday to you! Are you ready for a brand new week, or are you waking up with dread and anxiety? The past few weeks I’ve felt funky on Monday mornings—-like the weekend wasn’t long enough, and I wasn’t ready to face “the real world” again. I’m going to try my hardest to focus on the positive today.
How about you?

Congratulations on making it through another week. Make this weekend count. Stay present and aware and live in the moment. Don’t check out when playing with the kids or listening to them read. Step away from the computer and put down the blackberry.
This is it. You’re only going to have today once.
This weekend:

Happy Thursday! You’ve made it almost through another week. I’ve got all three in tears right now, and two American Girl Bitty Babies in timeout in my closet, so this is going to be super short.
Today:
catch up on the stuff you know you need to catch up on
remember that patience is a virtue!
Wednesday, clobber the cobwebs

I bet you’re the only one you know who is able to confidently say it’s the 222nd day of the year.
You’re welcome!

Tuesday–run errands and stuff

So the update on the no swaddling with the Miracle Blanket thing is that the baby is sleeping pretty well at night but NOT napping. AT ALL. It’s pretty funny to watch her spring up and start banging the crib rails as soon as I put her down. I swear yesterday she took her binky and ran them up and down the sides like she was in prison. crazy kid.
I did get a bunch of work-work done yesterday and the kids were really well behaved considering I banned the TV. Today we’re going to run a bunch of errands and finalize the back to school stuff the school sent out.
and go to the post office.
I hate our post office. Are they all so slow? I see employees walking around back there, but there’s usually only one window open during the day, and the line moves so slow I feel like plucking out eyelashes just so SOMETHING is happening.
anyway. I got two great emails yesterday. Jenny suggested putting in “speed bumps” during the summertime to get the kids on track with their summer reading—stuff like no going to Six Flags until your summer reading is caught up, etc.
and Laura had a fantastic idea of doing a “dress rehearsal” to get back on track for the busy school day mornings. Get up, get dressed, make beds, eat breakfast, brush teeth, etc. all by a certain time. Brilliant!
Today:
PROM the dresser drawers for the very last time. Or until maybe right before the holidays?
get your head in the game

or keep it in the game. The kids have kind of outgrown High School Musical, but we still listen to the soundtrack pretty often when we’re on long car rides (from the first movie, the second and third movies didn’t do much for me/them). One of my favorite songs is the “get your head in the game” song that Troy and his friends do on the basketball court.
We’re in the homestretch of summer vacation, and I do believe it’s been the best summer we’ve had. We’ve kept insanely busy, and have gone on quite a few little weekend getaways, with another scheduled before school starts.
I love the idea of not having a schedule, and being completely “whatever” to anything the day brings. It’s a fantastic way to be.
In theory.
In actuality (is that a real word, or just one that spell check has decided is real because it’s so commonly used?), my kids and I need to stick to somesort of schedule. Routine is probably a better term for this time of year, because we’re not really in jeopardy of being late to anything. No matter how easy going I try to become, their behavior quickly plummets when things get too loosey-goosey.
We’re home this week, and I’ve decided to go back to the basic family rules and stick to them. Beds made by breakfast, TV off at 9am, stick to the meal plan, you must eat at the table (or at least on a blanket if having a carpet picnic), 1 hour of rest time after lunch, etc.
and I need to get back to some sort of work routine!

August 7 & 8

We just got home from three days away at the beach—it was wonderful.
and very very very very sandy.
The baby is now seven months, and she has had a week of milestones. She’s learned to crawl, learned to pull up to a standing position with very-little-help which is kind of freaky, popped a tooth, gotten her first diaper rash (I think sand got in her swim suit?), and the biggest most exciting news…
she got weaned from the Miracle Blanket.
I was dreading this wean. She’s the only one of my three to ever sleep longer than 40 minutes without physical contact, and I was certain it’d be a tough transition. Instead, she rolled over and spread her arms out like she’d been doing it for the past seven months.
huh.
go figure.
