Happy Friday!

We crammed more into this week than we have in a very. long. time. The kids are absolutely exhausted, but in a good way. I love seeing the sun-kissed cheeks and the skinned knees, and the dirt-caked feet. I love summer!

until about the end of July. ask me what I feel then… :-)

Today:

daily 7

catch up on anything you’ve been neglecting

PROM your inbox and tidy up your desk/computer area. file the bill and paycheck stubs properly.

Happy Monday! I hope all of the dads in your life had a great day yesterday. We had a fantastic weekend—lots of outdoor and family time. One really good thing about being out of the house for most of the day is that the house stays much cleaner than when we’re all at home!

Today:

weekend recovery

daily 7

PROM the outdoor area—tool shed, gardening area, swim stuff, sand toys, etc.

Okay. I STILL haven’t written anything up about chores, and I hate that. It’s on my to-do list, I promise.

But just like every good to-do list, wants get shoved to another day in order to deal with needs.

I’ve spent the last few days putting out fires via email and then firefighting the sibling squabbles which occur each time I sit down to the computer.

Today:

daily 7

speed dust, vacuum, and quick mop

super quick: have the kids PROM their dresser drawers (again? yes, again. you’ll be surprised at how often you need to do this!). Set a timer for 10 minutes, make a game out of it. be nice. ;-)

I’ve noticed that one thing about parents is that no matter what stage your child is in, the parents who have older children always tell you the next stage is worse. –Dave Berry

Happy Thursday! The Office is in reruns now, right? I can’t remember. I took the day off yesterday from work, and spent the entire day on the floor with the baby. We watched 4 hours of Keeping Up With the Kardashians. Now I’m all caught up! :-)

I should really get some work done today.

Today:

daily 7

clean off the tops of all the dressers in the house. Walk through with a garbage bag and dump all of the obvious garbage, and PROM the rest of the stuff. (my kids collect gum wrappers. seriously. I’m going to put them in an empty Altoids container I found as a surprise.)

103–run errands, prepare for summer

Good morning to you! It’s time to gear up for summer. For some reason you can’t buy shorts or a swim suit in the middle of summer, you have to now. Everything’s on sale—I like to order online, but if you prefer to go into stores, you should be able to find a good selection.

It looks like the kids are going to pretty much live in Lands End clothing over the summer. I just received a big order the other day.

I love shopping in my jammies.

Today:

efficient erranding (remember the sunscreen!)

finish PROMing everyone’s clothing from winter

daily 7

schedule 3 more punch list items for the next few weekends

exercise. 27 days until Mother’s Day

yesterday: monday recovery day

day 56–PROM the china cabinet

I loved reading your comments and emails about yesterday’s post on changing your vocabulary to change your experience. I found myself a few times yesterday struggling to keep my brain-talk in check, but thanks to your support, I quickly “changed my mind.”

thank you!

I have a confession. We had guests over on Super Bowl Sunday, and while everything else has been cleaned up, the top of my china cabinet was used as a buffet, and I still haven’t put the platters away and put the picture frames and decorative knick knacks back out.

Today is the day! What’s your china/dish/knick knack cabinet or cupboard look like? Do you have things shoved in there that you’ve rarely or never used? Clear it out. Make room for something you really love, or leave the space empty.

Today:

PROM the china cabinet or cupboard

quick mop

day 53–PROM the books

I hope you had a great weekend! This week, we’re going to PROM the books. I used to collect books and had so many that the bookcases were overflowing. I bought books that I thought I should read, and kept books that I had read years and years ago, even though I knew deep down that I’d never want to read them again. As our family grew bigger and bigger, our book collection grew and grew. When we moved we had so many books they hardly fit into the boxes I bought to contain them all.

Are you the same way?

Are there books in your home that would be better enjoyed by someone else? Books are not trophies. Reclaim the square footage in your home housed by forgotten books.

You can give your books to: your local library, local children’s hospital, local schools and child care centers, VA hospitals, military bases, get rid of them on craigslist or freecycle, or drop them off at the Salvation Army/Goodwill.

Today:

PROM the books: look through all bookcases and quickly purge unwanted, unneeded, and unloved books

How come I’m so tired and it’s only Wednesday?

How did it go yesterday with the clothes PROMing? Did you find clothes from highschool the way I did? I found a few sweaters I’d been holding on to for no good reason, and finally threw them in the donation bag. It felt good and weird all at the same time.

Today:

when was the last time you changed the bed linen? 1 week? 3 weeks? a month? it’s okay, I won’t tell.

daily 7

finish PROMingĀ  your clothes (from yesterday)

“Each of my children has a school-supply basket which holds all of the essentials: tape, crayons, markers, scissors, an eraser, a glue stick and pencils (I’ve found drawers aren’t convenient for my kids, who want to be wherever I am).” –S.W., mom of three school-aged children

Happy Tuesday! I am SO very glad the kids are back in school today. I adore having them home with me, but after 2 extra days at home, they’re on each other’s nerves and I start making empty threats.

I’m pretty sure I told one of them that if she kept up her behavior I was going to move her bed into the gardening shed. Not my finest moment…

anyhow. back to “normal.” or whatever that means for you!

Today:

meal plan

daily 7

PROM your closet and your dresser drawers. If you need to take a few days to do this, take them. Get rid of any clothes you haven’t worn within the last calendar year (unless you were pregnant, or are going through something else life-altering…). For inspiration, check out my friend Susan’s flikr page of all her outfits—she’s done a great job of streamlining her closet, and is taking a daily picture of her clothing choices.

find a friend who would love your hand-me-downs, or schedule a charity drop-off or pick-up ASAP. Don’t leave the bags lying around, or you’ll be tempted to second-guess yourself.
