I’m typing this quickly before leaving for the first date night out in a VERY LONG TIME. woo hoo! Adam and I are going to see The Social Network, which is pretty funny because we’re the only ones we know who aren’t on facebook.

HA!

I’m having a tiny sliver of mommy guilt because I’m going to be away from the kids next weekend for BlogHer Food, but I think it’s passing.

okay, now it’s gone.

whew!

any big plans this weekend? want to hang out on twitter Sat night since I’m going to be up late with a bunch of slumber-partying 9 year olds?

this weekend:

decorate for Halloween

iron out details for Thanksgiving. are you hosting? what are traveling?

daily 7

have some fun.

Good morning! I left Adam in charge yesterday to do the weekend recovery while I ran a few errands and got a pedicure. It was a lovely day!

The kids are dying to see the new Ramona and Beezus movie, and we have two birthday parties. Other than that, we’ve got a pretty free weekend!

I’m thinking we need some new board games. The girls are 5 and 8, and we’ve outgrown Candyland and the like. I’ve read the reviews of Apples to Apples Jr., and that looks like a good fit. We haven’t tried Clue, but my 8 yr old is into detective and spy-type things, so I think she’ll get a kick out of that.

Any other suggestions? Is there any type of family-style trivia pursuit game? I wish I was better at trivia games, and should probably start easy!

I hope you had a wonderful and safe holiday, and if you’re traveling home today, my thoughts are with you.

Try to recover as much as you can today, but if you can’t because you’re too pooped, it’s okay. It usually takes a good week to recover from a holiday weekend, especially if you traveled. Cut yourself some slack.

and then throw on another load of laundry. you’ll feel better if you’re proactive.

not the zit soap. the action.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend filled with family, fun, and barbecues.

If you’ve got a few spare minutes, I wasted too much time on YouTube yesterday and found some group that put up a hysterical (to me, I’m easily amused) parody of The Duggar family. oh my.  Not safe to click on around children; it’s almost 8 minutes; and if you offend easily, don’t bother. consider yourself fairly warned!

This weekend:

wear lots of sunscreen!

day 44 & 45–Valentine’s Day and President’s Day

February 13, 2010 by · 2 Comments

44 & 45

It’s finally the weekend! I’ve had the longest short week in the history of the world. The kids were home Thursday and Friday, which was nice, but we packed SO VERY MUCH in the first three days of the week that I’m still catching up.

I’m sort of exhausted, actually.

But! I’m on TV today at 8:45 or so am on a local channel. It’ll be a fun experience, but because of it I’ve needed to cook two extra things in crockpots (creme brulee and pomegranate beef), find clothes that actually fit (I’m going to wear a maternity top, but somehow my regular jeans fit? beyond weird.), and squeeze in a visit to the nail place. I didn’t get a hair cut, which means my last hair cut was in October. shh. don’t tell anyone.

and this site was down, which was kind of frustrating.

Thank you for all of the sweet emails—I think it’s back to normal now.

The last time I remember Valentine’s Day being the same time as President’s Day weekend was in 1997. or was it 98? I’m not really sure, but I do know that it was the first and only time I’ve gone skiing.  It was fun, but I don’t see me doing it again any time soon. I think I’d rather sit in a cozy place with a good book.

anyhow, This Weekend:

have a wonderful Valentine’s Day!

keep up with the Daily 7 as much as you can so it isn’t a rude awakening on Tuesday morning

have the kids help out around the house, moreso than usual. They are home, and therefore and making more messes. Put them to work!

day 36–February 5th, weekly reflection

It’s finally Friday! This week went back and forth between flying and crawling by. I’m exhausted, due to a congested baby who hates the booger sucker. I don’t blame her for hating the booger sucker, but I’m oddly fascinated by it. That probably sounds a bit weird.

Today:

daily 7

prep for the weekend—Super Bowl plans? are you entertaining? Do you need to company clean? (I do. it’s the 100th day of school on Monday, and the kitchen table has been overrun by art supplies.)

weekly reflection:

what went really well this week?

what didn’t?

anything you can do next week to make it run any smoother?

Have a wonderful weekend!

yesterday: continuing with the PROMing

day 35–February 4th

It’s Thursday, and the week is almost over. I’m already in weekend mode, because we’re going to have a big one. We’ve got our very first night out sans all three kids for the school silent auction parent dinner (and at some point we should discuss how expensive public school is…), and I’ve got to figure out what to wear. Nothing really fits yet, and I’m too cheap to buy anything new. I’m thinking I might need to double up on the spanx…

Sunday is the Super Bowl–are you having company? Attending any parties? Shop now for food and snacks, if you can. The store will be bonkers on Saturday.

It looks like we’re going to have 12 kids in the house on Sunday, which means I’ve got to purge the stuff I don’t want broken, touched, or misplaced. I usually walk around with an empty laundry basket and pile stuff in that is off-limits, and stash it all in the master closet.

It’ll be a fun weekend, I’m looking forward to it!

Today:

daily 7

exercise

finish PROMing what you started this week. Sort through purged clothing (but not the toys! don’t open the toy bag or bin—just get rid of them) and make piles for hand-me-downs, donation, or sale.

yesterday: PROM kitchen junk drawer

day 21–change linens. it’s been a while.

Another week is almost over! Are you as screwed up as I am since Monday was a holiday? I can’t seem to get my head in order.

We’ve had terribly stormy weather, and because of that, I haven’t really left the house the past three days. I’ve got overdue library books, squishy bananas (I really should make some banana bread or muffins today), and a package that should have been mailed on Tuesday.

oops.

But! the power never went out, and I somehow found the way to make 8 new slow cooker recipes in the past few days. We woke up to a fabulous steel-cut oats bake this morning.

Today:

change the bed linens. You may not have done this since last year. It’s okay, I won’t tell anyone. ;-)

daily 7

answer 106 emails…

yesterday’s post: speed dust and quick mop

I have gotten into the habit of waking before everyone else in the house has risen–usually around 5 am. I nurse the baby one last time and sneak out of bed. I love watching the sun rise over a cup of coffee, and I can pop in a load of laundry and empty the dishwasher before I lose my momentum. I use the time to catch up on email, do some yoga, or just sit and be still. It’s my favorite time of the day. –Rebecca, mom of 5

day 18–weekend recovery; MLK Jr. Day

Today’s a holiday for a lot of people, and chances are the kids are off school. The weather guy is predicting a storm (although he also swore it’d rain all weekend the past few weekends and was way off), so the girls and I are hunkering down with projects. I’ve got a lot of writing and slow cooking I need to do, and my eldest is knee-deep into the second Harry Potter book.

My goal is to not plop the 5-year-old in front of Noggin all day, and to keep the binky IN the baby’s mouth for more than 3 nano-seconds so I can plug in some crockpots.

I aim high, I tell you.

Today:

make out a meal plan if you haven’t already

get the Daily 7 done, and if you’ve got kids home, put them to work!

weekend recovery (since it’s a holiday, you may have a difficult time with this (I know I will). Don’t stress—just do what you can, like empty the lunch boxes from Friday and pick up stray stuff around the house.

read the PROM article. We’re going to start PROMing very, very soon.

order and send out baby announcements (this may be just for me. I keep putting it off…)

yesterday: weekend stuff

tomorrow: gather important dates
