day 210
210
It’s Thursday. Thursday is meltdown day in the O’Dea household. I can already feel it in the air—the kids and I have been going non-stop since 6am Monday morning, and we’ve got a full weekend lined up.
we need to stay in today and veg.
if I’m lucky there’s a Life on the D List marathon on Bravo…
Today:
meal plan for the weekend, and for next week. We’re hosting 2 parties, are you entertaining this weekend?
be nice.
hug your kids close.
the weekend!

The kids are dying to see the new Ramona and Beezus movie, and we have two birthday parties. Other than that, we’ve got a pretty free weekend!
I’m thinking we need some new board games. The girls are 5 and 8, and we’ve outgrown Candyland and the like. I’ve read the reviews of Apples to Apples Jr., and that looks like a good fit. We haven’t tried Clue, but my 8 yr old is into detective and spy-type things, so I think she’ll get a kick out of that.
Any other suggestions? Is there any type of family-style trivia pursuit game? I wish I was better at trivia games, and should probably start easy!
This weekend:
family fun

I hope you had a wonderful and safe holiday, and if you’re traveling home today, my thoughts are with you.
Try to recover as much as you can today, but if you can’t because you’re too pooped, it’s okay. It usually takes a good week to recover from a holiday weekend, especially if you traveled. Cut yourself some slack.
and then throw on another load of laundry. you’ll feel better if you’re proactive.
not the zit soap. the action.
Today:
it’s Friday! and almost 4th of July!

This summer has really been moving fast. I’m thoroughly exhausted. I know I’ve already mentioned it, but I have had such mommy guilt over being so sick and boring last summer because of being pregnant that I’m kind of going overboard keeping the kids (and me!) busy.
Today was no different, but the wonderful thing was that my friend Georgia took us all in, and I’m so very grateful. I got my cavity filled at 9am, and it wasn’t until 4pm that the novocaine finally wore off and I wasn’t feeling numb, hungry, and cranky. Georgia made me potato leek soup and minded the baby while I loaded her crockpot with chicken parmesan. The big kids put on a hula hoop show and tried to sell bags of lemons to passerbys (no takers, but now they’re making lemonade, and I keep hearing “oops” from my spot on the couch, but I’m not going in there until they’ve finished and cleaned up), and the little kids make popsicle stick creations. It was a very good day!
Today:
if you’re going away for the 4th, be careful and wear lots of sunscreen! Do not turn your back to kids in water. Ever. If you’re going in to use the restroom, get the kids all of the way out of the water. It’s just not worth it. I once fished my girlfriend’s 4yr old out of the pool during a party where there were adults *everywhere.* Noone will watch your kids as closely as you do.

I have a kindergarten graduate in the house! I plan to spend much of the day walking around in a daze wondering where the time has gone.
and make cookies
and brownies
and buy ice cream
Today:
gear up for the weekend—we’re spending the days (starting tonight) on the softball field, and I need to make sure we’ve got lots of somewhat-healthy snacks in the house so I don’t eat nothing but nachos (I’m a sucker for that jalapeno cheese stuff from a can) for three days.
count your blessings, and weekly reflection.

I hope your week started off well. There are primary and local elections today in many areas. Make sure to vote. It’s the last week of school, and things are beyond bonkers in our house.
Today:
meal plan if you haven’t done so already
run errands—make sure you’ve got teacher/graduation/father’s day/upcoming wedding gifts purchased or in the works
I’m going to be reading The Help, and will host an online discussion July 15 (it’s a thursday)
day 158–Monday Madness

This is the last Monday of the school year. The kids have requested that I pack their thermoses for lunch—one wants mac and cheese (Trader Joe’s rice mac) and the other wants vegetable soup (from a can. Progresso). I think I learned my lesson when I made a big deal about packing them whatever they want for lunch.
I hope everybody had a great weekend—we sure did.

that’s it!

You made it through another week, congratulations! Remember to keep up with the Daily 7 as much as you can today and tomorrow—don’t go overboard, just try to pick up after yourselves so it’s not overwhelming on Monday morning.
Sunday is Mother’s Day! Have a wonderful day, and soak it all in. They grow terribly quickly.
Meal plan for the week. If you haven’t started to jot down breakfasts and snacks, give it a try. It’s mind-boggling to me how the kids won’t argue with what’s written on a piece of paper!
This weekend:
Enjoy your Mother’s Day! Remember to keep a thankful heart.
that’s it!

Happy Cinco de Mayo! Anything fun planned for dinner? We’re having leftovers, but I’ve got a bunch of avocados dying to be turned into guacamole. I’ll also make a plate of nachos to help stretch the leftovers.
There’s lots of excitement in our house right now—the kids have summer fever and are bouncing off the walls. It’s been harder and harder to round them up for bed in the evenings because it’s been light out past 8pm. This is such a fun time–I love the late spring, when you’re all wiggly and excited for summer to hurry up and get here already.
Today:
clean out the linen closet—PROM old towels, get rid of the holey washcloths, and the other junk that accumulates. You do not need to hoard hotel soap and shampoo. Use it or lose it. :-0
yesterday: cinco de mayo eve. run errands.
