Teeny Tiny Thoughts
March 20, 2009 by Stephanie
since I don’t twitter.
- I was IMing with Laura this morning and she told me that the season finale for John and Kate Plus 8 is this Monday. I haven’t been keeping up at all because we down-graded our cable package. She thinks they aren’t doing well (marriage-wise. their health is fine)? And has anyone ever seen this blog? Oh my.
- we have colds. Or allergies. I’m not sure what, but if I can ever get through the night without choking on my own phlegm, I will do a happy dance. Maybe two.
- I got up at 2:15 this morning. I went back to bed at 3:26. I really don’t know what I did for that hour and eleven minutes.
- I’m very very very very tired
- I’m meeting moms at the school at 10:00 am to make copies. COPIES. We need to have a committee to make copies?
- they better bring me a double mocha. non-fat. with whip.
- softball season has started. I love being outside and watching the kids run around. My little one is too little, but she has a pair of cleats that are just too precious for words.
- I think I want a vegetable garden.
- and a gardener to attend to it.
- do you think it’s because Kate made Jon get hair plugs?
- I crockpotted yesterday. It was good—a chile verde. I really should write about it.
- I want to attempt a chile relleno this weekend.
- the kids are fighting.
- over yogurt varieties.
- I bought the kind with high fructose corn syrup because it was on sale.
- and it makes them happy.
- but I still feel like I did something wrong for buying it.
- ugh.
- I need to get off the computer.
- my letter “P” sticks.
- I wonder why.
- I should have used a question mark there.
- it’s already 7:15 and I’m not dressed. or showered. the kids aren’t ready either.
- but they’ve each eaten 3 yogurts.
- the spell-a-thon is today.
- I didn’t write a check.
- I don’t really want to.
- how come free public education costs so much?
- Adam wants to get a puppy.
- we have a really small house, so if we do, it should be small
- but not yappy.
- and not shed.
- and not pee everywhere.
- maybe a kitten instead?
- now I really need to turn off the computer.
- I’ve been getting a lot of spam email lately.
- my nose is itchy.
- do you really think Jon and Kate will break up?
- and why do I care so much?
- okay. computer off.
- for reals.
- yes.
this is why I probably shouldn’t twitter.
Happy Friday!

The fighting over the yogurt containers got so bad, here, that I now refuse to buy the little cups. I’ve been buying the quart size for a while (current favorite: Cabot low-fat vanilla greek-style yogurt), but — dare I say it — I’m actually thinking about making my own. Because I’m turning into a hippie.
I’m SO SURE you wanted to know all of that.
P.S. It was the high fructose corn syrup that drove me to it!
I think we have the same cold. Nasty sinus draining cold. I was up from ~11 to ~1.
On a side note, I’m making the Moroccan Lentil Stew from the crockpot site today. This has been a real winner in our house. This is like the 4th time I’ve made it. Thanks!
My dad and mother-in-law have a Havanese. He wasn’t cheap but he’s PERFECT. They did a ton of research on small breeds that like kids. I would like him for myself.
I haven’t seen J&K+8 in forever so I have missed the drama. Thanks for getting me caught up especially since we’re getting rid of cable for the next six months. I’m conserving my time for the really good stuff – like ‘House’ reruns.
My kids are going to town on yogurt, too. Must be the weather. I need to go back and try to make another batch. The first time I tried it it worked great but not so much the second time when I tried to make it thicker. But I hear the third time’s the charm.
I’m going for the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel as the BEST family dog! Ours is wonderful. If you keep them trimmed they won’t shed. Hope it helps to know that Europe is also over-run by the sniffly cold epidemic this year also. Thanks for all you’re cool information!!! I love your blogs!!!!
Please do blog about the chili verde. My husband would love you forever. Wait, am I pushing my husband more to your side then he already is? Hmmm….
My letter ‘e’ sticks and drives me crazy.
If they do split I think it will be because Kate treats him like a child. And why do I care so much? Hmmmm….
I think the Jon-and-Kate-marriage-in-trouble-thing is fabricated for ratings purposes.
They love each other, and they do a phenomenal job with their 8. And I think that they are very well-suited to each other, and have the rare benefit of getting to see themselves through outside eyes.
I do think that they were insane to get dogs, but we’re in the same boat–we got a border collie/newfoundland mix, and we should have our heads examined.
If you get a puppy, get a low-energy one! I love dogs, but I have had cats that were very dog-like. I highly recommend orange tabbies–I’ve had vets in three different states say that orange tabbies are the most human-like/dog-like. I had one who would sit and stay, and was very conversational. He also cried if he didn’t get to sleep on the bed.
If you have seasonal allergies, you might check the possibility of being gluten intolerant yourself–I know a few people whose only symptoms were upper respiratory.
Your blogs are great–even when you are tired!
I grew up in the ’70s, and yes, we made our own yogurt. We had this yogurt maker, actually – I think it was white and blue. I wonder where it is now. I should rummage around the cupboards the next time I’m at my Mom’s house. Dad was the one who made the yogurt, but he’s been gone for almost 12 years, now. I’m lactose intolerant and allergic to casein, the protein in dairy, so I really shouldn’t care . . . but for some reason, now I really want that yogurt maker. Ah, childhood memories. I wonder if someday your kids will fight over who gets a specific crock pot they remember from their youth.
A small dog? And not yappy? IS there such a thing? You need to get a Ragdoll cat. Extremely laid back and loving. Dogs sometimes think you should get up at 2am just so they can go outside. Cats? They handle that problem all on their own while letting you sleep…unless you are up and on the computer at 2am doing things you can’t even remember doing. LOL
Yes, a cat. That’s my vote.
Jon and Kate ~ watch that every once in awhile when I can’t sleep and it’s on. I’ve thought for a very long time they really don’t get along. She’s VERY bossy. I guess when you have that many kids you need to be bossy BUT, not to your own husband like she is. Sheesh. Sometimes I feel like yelling at her the way she talks to that poor man. It seems as if he can’t say anything right when they are both on that “loveseat” being interviewed. No matter what he says, she’s got to correct him or add to it. I feel sorry for that guy so yea, whoever it was that said ‘head between the knees to search for the missing manhood’ hit that nail right on the head. I can’t imagine him leaving though. Geez, the poor guy stay there and keep raking in all the money from the shows or leave and have to pay how many thousands of dollars in child support to her to support that many children? I think I’d stick around too. LOL
love this blog, look forward to getting the journal, and i’m a crockpotlady junkie! a thought on dogs, shih tzus are fun. they are hypoallergenic, don’t shed if you keep on basic grooming, stay small but not too small that they’ll crumble under little hands (big deal to us!
and best of all, they have such great personalities. we were told the little guys are a bit lower maintenance but who knows. our little charley is perfect. and not yappy!!!
hey- we dowgraded our cable package too- every little bit helps huh? Anyway- if you have not- ck out HULU where many of the shows you missed can be watched PLUS tons of movies- free on your puter screen.
Wow–I spent WAY too much time on that J&K blog last night. Holy cow.
I was just going to say that you would be an awesome twitterer. What a fun little post.
That’s too bad about Jon and Kate. Maybe it would be a good idea to take a break from the show. It’s not worth losing a marriage over. I imagine raising two sets of multiples is stressful enough without having it all televised.
Ha! You’re hilarious. This post really made me smile. Thanks.
yeah, well, I know how to make my own, so I totally beat you on the hippie thing.
dude. they were SOOOOO cheap. crazy cheap! and! boston cream pie flavored!
xoxo steph
oh yay, Tanya! about the soup. not the cold. I hope you feel better soon. xoxo steph
a Havanese. I’m going to look that up. thanks! xoxo steph
GASP! I have a Havanese too! And you never hear about them. But it really is the very best dog ever….and I will say that I’m not a dog person AT ALL! But this dog doesn’t really count. He doesn’t shed and he sleeps in a little bed beside our bed and he’s the sweetest dog ever. I don’t think I would ever get anything else now.
That’s just my 2 cents!

One more thing….I sort of forgot what I was doing here till after I submitted the comment. I absolutely LOVE the twitter blog. I don’t tweet. And I hope I don’t start. Your blog just cracks me up! So true…at least from what I’ve heard…
the not-shedding thing is very intriguing to me…
lol, they might! I think they’d vote for the little dipper, cuz of the chocolate fondue.
xoxo steph
Hi Connie, I “knew” a Cavalier King Charles named Millie when I was growing up. Absolutely precious dog. And yes. I like to know that our miserable colds have spanned the seas.

Most of what you see on J&K+8 is for the TV camera. I have relatives who live in their town. For instance: Kate has never really cooked; they have a cook who makes their meals. The “meals” done by Kate are for the camera. All vacations are paid for (including gifts/food/amenities) by the place they are visiting — it’s good advertising. They clothes are provided by the manufacturers. John hasn’t worked a “real” job in quite a while. He “works” from home, managing the family enterprise — and believe me, it is now very much an enterprise. As obsessive compulsive as Kate appears on TV? Much more so in real life, and always has been. Very controlling personality. Go ahead and enjoy it if you wish, but do so understanding that it isn’t real. They are on TV by choice & have become rich marketing their kids.
I make my own yogurt (driven to it by cheapness and the HF corn syrup) -plus it is very easy. However…haven’t mastered flavoring except for stirring in jam or honey before serving. Just plain ol’ plain over here. Any hints?
Hi Jill, I have made/make the crockpot yogurt. Mostly we just stir in frozen fruit or honey, but many of my readers have had good luck with using vanilla extract or some dry pudding powders. xoxo steph
